CIP stands for Clean In Place. Before the
development of CIP techniques equipment and
piping was cleaned by dis-assembling scrubbing
and wiping with a variety of chemicals, brushes
and cloths. CIP introduced the world to
cleaning by using hot water and chemicals such
as sodium hydroxide to remove soil. Cold
water does not clean well and so the water and
the chemicals need to be heated, often by using
a CIP heat exchanger.
