Purchasing Specialist

About the Role
As a Purchasing Specialist, you’ll report to the Purchasing Manager and help ensure our manufacturing teams have the materials, parts, equipment, and services they need, when they need them. You’ll work closely with Production, CAD/Design, Sales, Shipping, and suppliers to balance cost, quality, and delivery.
This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys keeping details organized, solving problems, and learning how things are made. You’ll build positive supplier relationships while holding vendors accountable for pricing, quality, and commitments.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Review Bills of Materials (BOMs), CAD information, and purchasing sheets to order non-stocked materials and components.
- Monitor inventory, reorder points, and open purchase orders. Follow up on overdue deliveries and keep internal teams informed of delays.
- Compare quotes, research suppliers, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- Purchase shop and office supplies, services, equipment, and machinery, and provide pricing support to Sales.
- Create and maintain purchase orders, part numbers, vendor pricing, receiving records, and other purchasing data in Infor/Visual ERP.
- Assist with receiving, physical inventory, and inventory discrepancies. Coordinate cash-sale items with Shipping for timely customer delivery.
- Learn each location’s purchasing needs, provide backup coverage, and help develop consistent purchasing processes.
- Identify ways to improve material availability, shorten lead times, streamline purchasing, and manage costs.

Education & Experience
Required: A high school diploma or equivalent and basic computer skills.
Preferred: Experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory, materials, manufacturing, or supply chain. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or a related field is a plus.
Additional experience that would be helpful includes:
- Working with BOMs, vendor quotes, inventory planning, or ERP systems, especially Infor/Visual.
- Purchasing stainless steel, tubing, pipe, fittings, flanges, plate, or fabricated components.
- Working in an ASME Code shop or pressure-vessel or heat-exchanger manufacturing environment.
- Supporting multiple manufacturing locations.
You don’t need experience in every area listed above. Strong organization, follow-through, and a willingness to learn are important to success in this role.
Schedule & Location
- Full-time, daytime hours with half-day Fridays.
- No weekends.
- In-person at our Medford, WI location.
